37-K new COVID-19 cases, 33-K recoveries reported

The Department of Health (DOH) reported 37,070 additional COVID-19 cases and 33,940 new recoveries on Monday (Jan. 17), bringing the current active case tally to 290,938.

A total of 23 new deaths were also recorded, raising the death toll to 52,929. To date, there have been 3,242,374 confirmed cases and 2,898,507 recoveries since the pandemic started.

Out of the 77,410 tested from Jan. 15 reports, 46% turned out positive for the disease.

The DOH said 98.4% of the cases are mild and asymptomatic. Based on the case bulletin, 304 cases are critical, 1,480 are severe, 2,947 are moderate, 277,020 are mild, and 9,187 are asymptomatic.

The current intensive care unit (ICU) utilization of the country is at 49%, isolation beds at 47%, ward beds at 50%, and ventilators at 22%.

In the National Capital Region, ICU utilization is at 58%, isolation beds occupancy at 48%, ward beds at 62%, and ventilators at 30%.

The DOH has advised those experiencing symptoms to immediately isolate to prevent COVID-19 transmission and to get tested at the proper time. -ag
