60 Filipinos test positive for COVID-19 in Indonesia

The Philippine Embassy in Indonesia reported that 60 Filipinos tested positive for COVID-19 in the country.

Philippine Ambassador to Indonesia Leehiong Wee assured on Thursday (July 15) that they are prepared to aid the victims in the time of need.

“When we see these kinds of cases, we get in touch with the victim or their friends and see what we can do…We will give medicine and recommend them to hospitals, although very challenging, we are doing the best we can do,” he said.

In relation to this, the embassy said around a hundred Filipinos who booked their flights by the end of the month have been affected by the travel ban imposed by the Philippines on Indonesia until July 31.

“Ang daming main street na hinaharang to avoid people coming in and out. Hopefully, with the restrictions in mobility and then bababa na yung cases,” he said.

Ambassador Wee is hoping for the situation to get better so that the embassy can facilitate another repatriation flight for distressed Filipinos.

As of July 15, the Indonesian Ministry of Health reported that the daily infections rose to 56,000 cases, making Indonesia the epicenter of COVID-19 in Asia since the surge began after a May holiday.
