A total of 930 private schools in the country have been nominated to conduct face-to-face classes, the Department of Education (DepEd) said Wednesday, May 4.
In the Laging Handa briefing, DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones said there are a total of 29,980 schools nationwide tagged as “qualified” to conduct face-to-face classes, of which 930 are private schools.
“We are a democratic country and we give space and we value the contributions of private schools. We also respect whatever decisions they make but we urge them really to restart already the opening of face-to-face classes but that would involve the parents,” Briones said.
Briones also said that 26,921 schools out of the 29,980 nominated schools are currently holding limited in-person classes.
She noted that there are approximately 6.4 million learners participating in classroom-based learning across the country. – ag
