SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique — Antique’s People’s Day activities resumed in Culasi town on Thursday, highlighted by the release of assistance to senior and indigent Antiqueños.

Aileen Maguad, in charge of the “Kabalaka kang Gobernadora kay Lolo kag Lola” (Governor’s Concern for Grandfathers and Grandmothers), said in an interview Friday that five senior citizens received financial assistance.

“There were four elderlies 85 to 89 years old who were given PHP2,000 each, with a 90-year-old senior receiving PHP3,000,” she said. The financial assistance was meant for their milk, food and medicines.

Meanwhile, 21 recipients received a total of PHP62,700 under the aid to individuals in crisis situation (AICS).

“There were five from Libertad town who were given AICS while the rest were from Culasi,”she said.

The People’s Day is conducted twice a week — Tuesday at the provincial capitol in San Jose de Buenavista, and Thursday in Culasi. It has been running for almost three years now.

During the activity, the provincial government offers free health checkup and social welfare services, such as the Kabalaka and AICs.

Antique Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao also holds office in Culasi every Thursday so residents from the northern part of the province no longer have to travel to the capitol in the south for them to conduct their transactions with her.

The People’s Day was temporarily stopped during the holidays last December.
