This city’s 8,500 senior citizens began receiving cash incentives from the city government following the implementation of a new city ordinance, on top of the benefits they enjoy pursuant to the national Senior Citizens law, which grants them even more perks and discount privileges.

City Mayor Antonio Ferrer on Thursday assured that all 8,500 senior citizens from the city’s 33 barangays (villages) shall receive cash incentives out of the city government’s allocated funds.

Lahat po ng ating mga Lolo at Lola ay makakatanggap ng cash incentives. May mga naka-schedule po ng dates ng orderly and systematic distribution (All of our grandpas and grandmas shall receive their cash incentives. There are scheduled dates for an orderly and systematic distribution),” Ferrer said.

Senior citizens from barangays Corregidor, Arnaldo, Vibora, San Gabriel, and Bacao 1 and 2 were among the first to benefit from the new city legislation.

The ordinance providing incentives for elderly citizens was approved by the City Council through its presiding official Vice Mayor Morit Sison, which the local chief executive finally approved and implemented this year.

The city ordinance was authored by Councilor Jowie Carampot, as chair of the City Council’s committee on senior citizens, and Councilor Kristine Perdito who chairs the committee on appropriations.

Ferrer told the beneficiaries during Thursday’s distribution of cash incentives at the city hall, “Your patience, comfort, and life’s lessons symbolize your unconditional love to your family, to the city.”
