Pakistani with fake PH visa nabbed in NAIA

A 25-year-old Pakistani national is now under the custody of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) after he was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) early this week for having a fake Philippine visa.

BI Port Operations Division Chief Grifton Medina said Thursday that the foreigner, identified as Salman Khan, was intercepted at the immigration departure area of NAIA Terminal 1 on Monday.

“The immigration officer became suspicious of his documents and his demeanor, so he was referred for secondary inspection to members of the BI’s Travel Control and Enforcement Unit (TCEU),” Medina said.

On the other hand, BI-TCEU Chief Erwin Ortañez confirmed that Khan’s passport contained a fake BI departure stamp purportedly showing that he arrived in the country on November 18 last year, through a fake Philippine visa that was supposedly issued on October 10, 2018.

“Said arrival, however, was not in our travel database, which meant that he did not really arrive on that date,” he added.

The BI said Khan’s last arrival in the country was in June 2015, making him an overstaying alien.

The Pakistani was brought to the bureau’s detention facility in Bicutan, Taguig, pending his prosecution for violation of the Philippine Immigration Act.
