Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) president, Al Panlilio, expressed support on behalf of his organization for Kai Sotto’s decision to train in the United States.

“The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas fully supports the decision of Kai Sotto to start training in the US to pursue his goal to enter the NBA by 2021 or 2022,” Panlilio said in a statement on Monday night.

The seven-foot-two Ateneo High School star announced earlier in the day that he will “start training full-time” overseas and forego his last two playing years with the academic institution.

“I strongly feel (with his [father Ervin’s] advice and the advice of other experienced mentors) that leaving immediately to start my training and getting the right exposure will go a long way to help realize my dream,” Sotto’s statement added.

Panlilio then assured that the SBP is “closely coordinating with the management team of Kai to ensure that all his needs are addressed and his stay in the US will be worthwhile and fruitful.”
