Davao Occ takes MPBL South Finals opener vs. Batangas City

MANILA — The Davao Occidental Tigers banked on an impressive first quarter defense to repulse the Batangas City Athletics, 66-48, at the start of the MPBL Southern Division Finals at the Almendras Gym in Davao City on Thursday night.

The Tigers held the Athletics to just seven points in the first 10 minutes before holding on in the last three despite slowing down offensively.

Bonbon Custodio made 13 points, nine rebounds, and three assists for Davao Occidental, which can sweep the best-of-three series when it shifts to the Batangas City Sports Center on Saturday night.

Jayson Grimaldo put up 13 points, three rebounds, one block, and one steal for Batangas City.
