Manila’s ‘Silencer’ KOs foe to win WBC Asian belt

DAVAO CITY – Arnel “The Silencer” Baconaje of Manila knocked out Tomjune “War Dog” Mangubat of Cebu in the 8th round to win the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Asian Boxing Council Silver featherweight title on Friday night at the South Town Centre Mall in Talisay City.

Baconaje scored his 11th win and 9th knockout victory against 3 losses while Mangubat suffered his first loss against 10 wins and 1 draw.

Baconaje last won the Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) super bantamweight title by beating Brian Lobetania by unanimous decision on March 18, 2017.

Meanwhile, Ponciano Remandiman of Cebu scored a majority decision over Renz Rosia of Manila to win the vacant Visayas Professional Boxing Association super flyweight title.

The 22-year-old Remandiman scored his 10th win against 4 losses and a draw while Rosia dropped to 14W-8L-1D.
