LAOAG CITY — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Ilocos Norte is reminding registered voters that over voting, or choosing names more than the maximum number of candidates allowed would invalidate their votes.

Atty. Joel Ginez, Provincial Election Supervisor of Ilocos Norte, announced Friday that Comelec is all set for the May polls as he advised voters to prepare a list of their candidates before going out on election day.

“Voters are allowed to have a list of their candidates so that voting will be quick and easy for them. Let me remind our voters not to over vote because our vote counting machines do not have the capacity to eliminate a name or names in case a voter picked more than the maximum number of candidates,” Ginez said.

“Undervote is ok but in case of over voting, our vote for the said position which exceeded the number of candidates will not be counted,” he added.

In Ilocos Norte, the Comelec reported a total of 416, 233 registered voters who are expected to exercise their right of suffrage.

Meanwhile, the Comelec also reiterated that “posting of campaign materials outside of the common poster areas is prohibited.” The common poster areas prescribed by Comelec are often located in village halls and private places, as long as there is a consent from the owner.

Putting posters in government vehicles, patrol cars, including highways, walls of public buildings, electric posts and trees are prohibited.

Like in previous years, the Comelec jointly with personnel of the Philippine Philippine National Police, Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Department of Interior and Local Government are conducting “Operation Baklas” or removal of campaign materials at least twice a week in the city.
