CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet — The Cordillera Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) is on full alert and will respond to emergencies to assure the safety of the public as the May 13 mid-term polls draw near, an official said Tuesday.

“We are ready and will be on alert as the election nears, even if it will be an earthquake that will happen,” said Albert Mogol, chairman of the CDRRMC and Office of Civil Defense regional director.

Mogol said the council will help the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for an orderly conduct of the election, in case an earthquake happens on voting day or during the canvassing of votes.

“In coordination with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Comelec, the CDRRMC is ready to help in case there would be an emergency that will happen on the day of the election,” he said.

The PNP is also a member of the CDRRMC under the security and safety cluster.

Mogol said the CDRRMC headquarters in Camp Henry Allen will be on heightened alert and on 24/7 monitoring, ready to respond in case of emergencies.

Several earthquakes had occurred recently in different parts of the country. On Monday, a magnitude 5.4 earthquake hit the Ilocos Norte area.

There was no report of damage or casualty due to the quake.
