‘Ask us on Twitter’, Comelec tells voters looking for precincts

MANILA — Registered voters may find their polling precincts through Twitter, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Thursday.

This, as the poll body said its “precinct finder” has yet to be activated on its website, www.comelec.gov.

“For the meantime, our platform here in Twitter is ready to help you find you polling precincts. Just DM (direct message) us,” said Comelec in its another Twitter account, @radyocomelec.

The poll body noted that for the public to know their poll details, they have to send their full name, including their middle name (not initial), and the locality where they are registered voters and birthdate.

For married female voters, they may submit their full maiden name and married surname.

“(We) Will get back to you as soon as we get the information requested,” the poll body added.

“(An) alternate (though trying) way of knowing where your voting center and precincts is to go to your local Comelec office or identified schools to be used during election. Go early to check,” the Comelec added.

It was reported that a school in a Metro Manila has already displayed voters lists for the public to check their status as registered voters in that area.

The Comelec used to have a Precinct Finder function in its website, where voters will be able to know the details of his/her voting center, precinct number, registration status, and also voters’ ID status.

To access such information, the registered voter is required to provide his/her full name and date of birth.

However, this application was disabled after it was among the affected functionalities when the Comelec website was hacked defacing its content before the 2016 elections.

The March 2016 incident resulted to the breach of sensitive voter information, otherwise known as “Comeleaks”.
