It’s bronze for Team Philippines in the men’s wheelchair 5 on 5 basketball event after trouncing Myanmar earlier today, 49 to 41, in the battle for third place in the on-going 9th ASEAN Para Games in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia.

The Pinoy Para cagers were in control of the match from the opening whistle until the final buzzer.

Behind the hot hands of Rene Macabenguil and John Ray Escalante who led the team with 18 and 14 points respectively, the wheel-chaired bound Pinoy players raced to a 14-point lead, 38-23 midway through the third quarter before somehow relaxing in the next minutes allowing Myanmar to string nine straight points for a 38-32 count.

That was the the closest that the opposition could get as the Pinoy differently-abled dribblers switched to higher gear in both the defense and offense.

The gold of the event went to Thailand after they demolished Malaysia, 70-56 in the finals. | Angel Atienza- PTV Sports
