PRRD appoints Cebu City police chief as new PCSO head

By Azer Parrocha/Philippine News Agency

MANILA — President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday said he will appoint Cebu City police chief Col. Royina Garma as the next general manager of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).

Garma will replace Alexander Balutan who stepped down from PCSO last March “out of delicadeza” amid corruption allegations for overspending during the PCSO Christmas party in 2017.

Duterte bared this during the premiere of the political action thriller “Kontradiksyon” at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.

“They are correct. It’s Garma of the PNP who would replace Balutan,” Duterte told reporters.

“‘Yung sa (at) PCSO. Balutan has been out. Si Garma ang papalit (Garma will replace him),” he added.

Duterte designated Garma as Cebu City police chief in 2018.

Prior to her appointment to PCSO, Garma was administrative officer and eventually headed the Women and Children’s Protection Desk in Davao City.

Garma also became the chief of Sasa and Sta. Ana police precincts in Davao City.

She is a graduate of the Philippine National Police Academy Class 1997.
