Mobile kitchens in Davao City to serve calamity victims

DAVAO CITY—The Davao City Government on Monday launched its own two mobile kitchens called “Kusina ng Bayan” to serve hot meals during calamities and disaster.

The two Kusina ng Bayan will be ran by the City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO), which allocated P8 million for the project.

Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, who led the launching ceremony, said the Kusina ng Bayan will be a big help to the victims of calamity given that they cannot cook their own food instantly.

“Kani siya intended to provide hot meals during disaster, usually man gud atong ginahatag immediate kay kanang grocery items. Di mana sila makaluto dayon, mao ni siya ang mag hatag og immediate na luto na pagkaon (This one is intended to provide hot meals during disaster. Usually what we immediately give are grocery items. They cannot instantly cook so this one will immediately provide cooked food),” Duterte-Carpio said.

The city mayor said she plans to purchase another one so that each of the three congressional districts will have one mobile kitchen.

Aside from the victims of calamities, the mayor said the Kusina ng Bayan will also serve those rescuers and volunteers, who are waiting for their food packs.

CSSDO head Ma. Luisa Bermudo said the Kusina ng Bayan will help ease the difficulties felt by the victims during the first hours or days of the disaster especially the vulnerable sectors — the women, children, elderly, and the persons with disability

“This will help lessen the negative impact of the disaster to the victims especially to the most vulnerable groups, our children, the elderly, the persons with disabilities, the pregnant woman and the lactating mothers,” Bermudo said. | PNA
