Senators mourn passing of Nene Pimentel

The Senate of the Philippines is in mourning over the loss of the good former Senate President Nene Pimentel who died yesterday, October 20, 2019. Sen. Panfilo Lacson remembered how the good old senator boosted his morale during a tumultuous time in his political career when his trust rating spiraled down to a negative 13% in 2001.

Sen. Richard Gordon admired the extent of his former colleague’s experience which he gained since he became mayor, assemblyman and eventually a dedicated public servant who was always after the best interest of all.

Senators Bong Go and Miguel Zubiri bewailed the loss of their fellow Mindanaoan, their Tatay Nene who was a staunch supporter of federalism.

Sen. Sonny Angara seconded Zubiri’s memories of Sen. Pimentel as a human rights advocate who was a “champion of the powerless and persecuted.”

The Senate’s flag is now in half-mast symbolizing a sad day not only for the Upper House but for the whole nation as well.
