SC moves ABS-CBN case discussion

The Supreme Court (SC) has not yet released a decision on the franchise renewal issue of media giant ABS-CBN.

In the en banc session of the SC earlier, the quo warranto petition and gag order plea filed by Solicitor General Jose Calida against the network was discussed but not given immediate action by the magistrate.

SC Spokesperson Brian Keith Hosaka said the ruling was postponed to give the magistrate more time to study the documents submitted by both parties.

The SC on March 10 is set to deliberate on the issue, and might also discuss if the High Court would grant the petition by issuing a gag order or by releasing a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) on Kapamilya Box Office (KBO) Channel.

The media network has responded to the petition filed by Calida last Monday.

Meanwhile, the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) and other groups have joined the en banc session to show support on the network, and to condemn the alleged attack on press freedom which should hopefully lead to the dismissal of the petition. – Report from Kenneth Paciente
