Amid the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19 ) threat, President Rodrigo Duterte has decided that it is not yet time to put the National Capital Region (NCR) on lockdown.
The President has cancelled classes on all levels, both public and private, in Metro Manila from March 10 until March 14 as part of the government’s response to the COVID-19 outbreak.
The Chief Executive has also assured that there are enough government funds for the needs of the public. He said that he is prepared to give husked rice (bigas) and other aid for those who will be affected by the virus. The President expressed hope that the virus will soon perish.
“I’m sure that the scientists all over the world are working overtime to look for the vaccine. Hindi ito magtatagal (this will not last long). I am confident that we will survive this contagion. (JCUT) We have the money to combat itong COVID na ito 19. We have… I assure you we have the money and we can defeat that. (JCUT) For those who cannot work and for those who are poor na hindi sila makakain (who do not eat) , I’m sure I will have something for them.”
Meanwhile, President Duterte disagrees with the “No Touch Policy” imposed by the Presidential Security Group (PSG), and will still push through with his plans like his trip to Boracay on Thursday but stricter regulations will be imposed on his activities. – Report from Mela Lesmoras
