Cayetano: PRRD ‘cares for the general public’

House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano believes President Rodrigo Duterte wants to do everything to protect the citizens despite his shoot-to-kill statement.

Cayetano in a virtual press briefing said some people do not often understand the President, and that his previous statement must not be taken literally.

“I think we have to get used on how the president expresses himself. Baliktarin niyo po ang tanong (Reverse the question), because he cares for the general public. He cares for every single person,” Cayetano said.

Cayetano also slammed Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) Chairman Joma Sison for his Facebook posts on the accomplishments of the New People’s Army (NPA) and revolution instead of sympathizing and helping in the fight against COVID-19.

He said that there should be no place for politicking in times of crisis, but there are enemies of the state who cause disorder.

Meanwhile, he expressed satisfaction on the first report of President Duterte to Congress on Bayanihan to Heal as One Act.

“But it’s always in the implementation ng programa ‘yung details. Instead of doing things the normal way, maghintay were coordinating with the departments to give our inputs kung paano mapabilis ito (The details are always in the implementation of the program. Instead of doing things the normal way, just wait since we’re coordinating with the departments to give our inputs on how to speed it up),” Cayetano said.

He assured the House will keep working amid the calamity, and added Congress can adjust if the crisis reaches the month of May when the sessions are expected to resume.
