COVID-19 cases now at 3,764 as DOH reports another 104

Based on the latest records of the Department of Health (DOH), there are now 3,764 positive COVID-19 cases in the country, 84 recoveries, and 177 deaths.

The DOH reported there are currently 274 mild cases, 39 severe, and 23 critical. Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said the number is not that high since the DOH is currently gathering data from hospitals.

Duque expounded that more or less 80 percent of the confirmed cases come from Metro Manila, and only a few have been recorded in other regions since those are only brought about by the local transmission in Metro Manila.

The Davao Region has the highest number of COVID-19 cases outside NCR at 79, followed by Central Visayas with 39 cases.

Meanwhile, Duque clarified they will not reduce the number of healthcare workers in hospitals to work for the converted community quarantine facilities since the AFP and PNP will manage the said facilities.

The DOH pointed out that guidelines have been released on the conversion of public places into community quarantine facilities which include location and hospital access, infrastructure requirements, number of healthcare workers, medicines, and other needed supplies.

The health department emphasized various modeling institutes have carefully studied the extension of the enhanced community quarantine, and that science has always been the basis. – Report from Mark Fetalco
