NWRB sees benefits of rainy season on dams, agri sector

The National Water Resources Board (NWRB) believes the increased rainfall activity in the coming days will fill up Luzon dams that supply water in mega cities, and will greatly help the agriculture sector this planting season.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the drizzles and light rains in some parts of Metro Manila is an indication that rainy season is fast approaching.

PAGASA weather specialist Samuel Duran said rainfall activity will increase, and frequent afternoon rain showers and thunderstorms will be observed this May. The PAGASA also expects the southwest monsoon and a potential typhoon to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this May.

Currently, Angat, Ipo, and La Mesa dams have not yet reached the high normal water level.

The NWRB allocates 64 cubic meters per second to water distributors daily to ensure sufficiency of water supply amid the pandemic. The NWRB will be studying the possibility of increasing the allocation as some parts of the west zone are still experiencing water service interruptions.
