COVID-19 cases now more than 10,000 in PH

The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday disclosed the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country has now reached 10,004 after it recorded the highest daily tally at 320 in more than a month.

The total recoveries has also increased to 1,506 after 98 have recovered, while the death toll has climbed to 658 as 21 patients succumbed to COVID-19.

Latest data show there are currently 7,840 active cases.

Meanwhile, the Pediatric Infectious Disease Society of the Philippines (PIDSP) said babies who have been infected by COVID-19 mostly have mild symptoms, making it more difficult to detect among children as compared to other diseases.

Dr. Anna Lisa Ong-Lim of PIDSP also refuted vertical transmission of COVID-19 or the transmission of infection to a child from the pregnant mother. She also encouraged mothers to continue breastfeeding their babies as long as they are careful in their oral secretions through the use of face masks, and advised parents to continue vaccinating their children. – Report from Mark Fetalco
