ERC urges Meralco to explain bills ‘spike’

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has pressed Meralco to explain the “spike” in consumer bills for the month of March and April.

Meralco has clarified then that the bills for March and April are the average of the consumers’ bills for the past few months since actual meter reading is suspended due to the enhanced community quarantine.

According to ERC Chairperson and CEO Agnes Devanadera, the company has to show their basis of computation of electricity bills during the ECQ.

In the sent letter, ERC has tasked Meralco to submit the basis of their computation for the months of March, April and May including power bills from their supplier to compute the generation rate, invoices from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines for the computation of transmission rate and the uniform reportorial requirement. – PTV News
