Ambo agri damage rises to Php 1.14B

The damage brought about by Typhoon Ambo on the agriculture sector has ballooned to Php 1.14 billion.

Ambo also affected 37,714 farmers and fisher folk and 25,404 hectares of agricultural areas in Central Luzon, CALABARZON, Bicol, Eastern Visayas, and CAR.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) assured the country will not run out of food supply amid the situation, and are currently preparing the Php 90.5 million indemnity fund from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) which will benefit 11,500 farmers and fishermen.

Aside from loan assistance, the DA emphasized it will try to coordinate with more private companies to sell the products of farmers.

The Kadiwa store of the DA has so far earned Php 2.5 billion. The agency has been aiming to provide more opportunities to more farmers to sell their products while providing cheap and good quality products to consumers.
