Tourism activities in Metro Manila may resume under MGCQ

Tourism activities in Metro Manila may possibly be allowed once it is placed under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ).

Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said they have been in communication with LGUs in the country but some are still “hesitant to open” even with the MGCQ in place.

“Right now there is no province that is ready to accept tourists… We see that tourists, when they are under modified GCQ, they will go first around their municipality, then around their city, saka na ‘yung inter-island (and later go the inter-island),” Puyat said.

The agency has urged hotel owners and restaurants to get DOT accreditation. Once an establishment is accredited, it will have free access to some applications to aid in its safe operations.

The department also reminded that hotels and resorts are not allowed to operate if they do not have the certificate of authority to operate. – Report from Mica Joson
