COVID-19 cases now at 22,474, DOH reminds public to check mental health

The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday announced the total count of COVID-19 cases in the country increased to 22,474 after 331 fresh cases and 248 late cases were reported

The total number of recoveries also rose to 4,637 with the recovery of 107 more patients, while the death toll climbed 1,011 following the passing of eight patients.

DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire explained the presence of late cases even with the submission of complete line list of laboratories as “there may still be late cases reported if laboratories do not submit their daily line list on time.”

“To make sure that close to real time reporting is achieved, the Department continues to provide laboratories with technical assistance in the rollout of the COVIDKAYA application in order to expedite the process of reporting of our laboratories,” Vergeire added.

Meanwhile, the DOH during its virtual presser on Monday reiterated its call on the public to take care of their mental health during this pandemic as it also affects physical health.
Dr. Bernard Argamosa, a psychiatrist at the National Center for Mental Health, disclosed the number of calls they received has increased during quarantine months with over 2,000 calls from March to May.

“Talagang napaka importante ang mental health. Itong pandemiya na ito is just 10 percent medical, it’s 90 percent psychological, kasi pwede kang maging asymptomatic, pwede kang hindi tamaan pero yung effect sa ‘yo napakatagal (Mental health is so important. This pandemic is 10 percent medical, 90 percent psychological because you can acquire it and be asymptomatic, but the effect is very long),” Argamosa said. – Report from Mark Fetalco
