DOTr responds to scammed LSIs in NAIA

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is taking measures against those who scam locally stranded individuals in going to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

According to DOTr Assistant Secretary Eymard Eje, cars have been dropping off LSIs in the airport. When asked, a group that arrived reported that their manning agency told them to go to the NAIA.

The DOTr now holds the name of the said manning agency. DOTr ASec. Eje admitted that this slows down the action of the government in transporting LSIs back to their hometowns. Instead of focusing on the initial applicants of the program, attention is shifted to those who are now stranded at the NAIA.

Overseas Worker Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator Hans Cacdac warned manning agencies that their permit will be suspended if proven guilty of sending Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) applicants to the airport without any guaranteed jobs. He also reminded that it is a violation of the law to hold their applicants’ passports just because of debt.
