Morales: Low collection, reason behind proposed delay UHC PhilHealth

President and CEO Ricardo Morales clarified anew on Monday the reason behind his suggestion to postpone the roll out of the Universal Health Care Law.

Morales said in the Laging Handa Public Briefing that the collected contributions of the PhilHealth in the previous months has been low due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He emphasized that the matter was only his suggestion to Congress and there is no final decision on it yet.

Morales also insisted that there is no corruption inside the agency. He disclosed that the Commission on Audit (COA) earlier said the alleged Php 154 billion lost fund from the submitted financial report from 2013 to 2017 has not been proven to be true.

“Mayroon tayong mga inefficiencies, mayroong mali ang pasok ng dokumento, mali ang pag-fill-up ng form, but walang syndicate, group of people colluding to defraud the corporation at that scale ( We have inefficiencies, wrong entry of documents, wrong way of filling up forms, but there is no syndicate, group of people colluding to defraud the corporation at that scale),” Morales claimed.

Meanwhile, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque clarified he has no interest in the position of Morales in PhilHealth amid his criticism on the corporation.

“Pagdating naman po sa PhilHealth, well, sinasabi ni General Morales interested daw po ako. Demotion po ‘yan. I’m not interested (When it comes to PhilHealth and the claims of Gen. Morales that I am interested, that is demotion. I am not interested),” Roque said. – Report from Louisa Erispe
