BOC-NAIA seizes Php4.5-million worth of shabu in chocolate wafer tin cans

The Bureau of Customs – NAIA seized 640 grams of shabu with an estimated street value of Php 4.5 Million on July 22, 2020. The seized illegal drugs were discovered while Customs Examiners were conducting 100% physical examination of unclaimed DHL cargoes intended to expedite the disposal of abandoned and/or overstaying cargoes at the NAIA Customs Bonded Warehouses.

Records show that the seized illegal drugs came from Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S.A., and consigned to a certain resident of Hagonoy. In an apparent attempt to conceal the said shabu, the same were described in the covering Airway Bill as “Toys/Present”. However, ensuing physical examination thereof revealed the same to contain chocolates; stuffed toy; candy; slippers; socks; and 2 cans of chocolate wafer where the illegal drugs were hidden and used to conceal the illegal drugs.

Both the field test conducted by CAIDTF and the Chemical Laboratory Analysis conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) confirmed the seized White Crystalline Substance as Methamphetamine Hydrochloride otherwise known as “Shabu”.

The seized illegal drugs were promptly coordinated to the PDEA for further profiling and case build up against the importers and responsible persons for possible prosecution for violation of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 in relation to Section 1401 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

The seizure further manifests the commitment of the Bureau of Customs under the leadership of Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero, in collaboration with the Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency, to curtail all attempts to smuggle dangerous drugs into the country.
