DepEd admits errors in aired learning material, ‘control measures’ in place

The Department of Education (DepEd) has acknowledged the grammatical and typographic errors of its learning material aired in the test broadcast of DepEd TV as part of its blended learning approach.

“Nagkaroon doon ng error sa pag-transfer at pagkopya. Nalaman na namin kaya mabuti na nagkaroon tayo ng dry run para makikita kaagad kung ano ang possible problems na lalabas (There was an error in the transfer and copying. We have learned about it. It is good that we have a dry run to see possible problems right away),” DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones explained.

“So nag-institute na kami ng control measures para hindi na iyon mauulit (We have instituted control measures to prevent it from happening again),” Briones assured.

The DepEd said errors during a test broadcast is inevitable since this is the first time that such distance learning approach has been conducted in the country.

The education department also stood by its initial declaration that classes must resume on August 24 amid calls from different sectors to move the date of the school opening and avoid the risk of transmission.

Briones pointed out that students will be left out if this happens. She reitierated that no face-to-face classes would take place to ensure the safety of teachers and learners.

The DepEd is also reviewing the proposal of some lawmakers to avoid failing students for the meantime as the country faces a pandemic.

In response to the call of Vice President Robredo to realign school rehabilitation budget of the DepEd for distance learning equipment and hazard pay of teachers, Briones said they “cannot make significant policy realignment on the budget without consulting the DBM” and assured that the education department has “been paying special hazard pay for teachers who have to make sacrifices.”
