No Need For Locking Down 25 Q.C. communities

The nation’s former capital and the NCR’s largest metropolis is the epicenter for Southeast Asia;s epicenter for the coronavirus outbreak: Mega Manila.

Still and all, Quezon City hall has found no convincing proof or validated numbers to put 25 of its communities or barangays under containment to stem the viral spread. This, coming at the heels of IATF spokesperson and presidential surrogate’s proposal to put the aforementioned communities under a special purpose quarantine.

Then again, the vetting of these communities under question continues as officials look to put finality on the matter anytime soon.

“As of now, there’s no reason to lock down the barangays mentioned by Secretary Nograles. But we are studying the suggestions of the IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases),” City Hall said in a statement on Sunday.

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, in response to her constituent’s pleas and sentiments, continues to coordinate with the IATF spokesperson and insists the numbers are manageable and well under her team’s control. An assertion she shares with most of the residents covered in the proposed containment scheme.

“The designation of ‘big brothers’ by the administration in local government units aims to speed up coordination in addressing the pandemic and not for (them) to interfere with the regulations and management of the LGU,” the city government said.

In the latest weekend count, Quezon City posted 8,589 coronavirus cases, of which 8,488 were seconded by the city’s Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit. Recoveries totaled nearly 6,000 while the fatality mark stood at 357.
