The Department of Health (DOH) is urging the riding public and concerned agencies to be more cautious amid the implementation of new physical distancing protocols for public transportation.
“The Department of Transportation, being the lead agency, shall be responsible for issuing and enforcing transport guidelines to ensure that the public’s health and safety shall not be compromised,” the DOH said in a statement.
“We enjoin all Filipinos to be extra vigilant in situations where distancing cannot be practiced…If possible, choose to participate in activities or use transport options that can afford at least 1m distancing,” it added.
The DOH also appealed to the public to keep practicing “all elements of BIDA” such as wearing of face masks and shields, proper hand washing, and physical distancing. The level of protection is higher when all health protocols are observed.
The DOTr announced last week that the one-meter distance among passengers of public transportation will gradually be tightened to 0.75 meters to 0.3 meters. – Report from Mark Fetalco
