Malacañang challenged the European Parliament following the latter’s threat to revoke the tariff-free status of export products from the Philippines.
“Kung gusto nilang dagdagan ang pahirap ng sambayanang Pilipino sa panahon ng pandemya so be it (If they want to add to the burden of the Filipinos in this time of pandemic, so be it),” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque stated.
“We will accept that as history repeating itself. Tama na iyang mga diskusyon na iyan. Gawin nila ang gusto nilang gawin. (Enough with the discussion on the matter. Let them do what they want to do). Sa mga panahon na ito (At this time), if they want to implement it, go ahead,” Roque added.
The Legislative Assembly of the European Union (EU) appealed through a resolution to the European Commission to remove the export benefits of the Philippines as a protest on the serious human rights violations in the country.
