The Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) has placed Camp Crame on temporary lockdown Tuesday, 8:30AM to conduct a surprise operation inside the camp.
The PNP-HPG’s operation was meant to identify police officers who use impounded, unregistered, or carnapped cars. All drivers of cars and motorcycles were asked to present legal documents to prove their ownership of the vehicle.
In the course of the operation, the PNP-HPG discovered 8 officers without an OR/CR while 9 merely showed a temporary operators permit.
PNP-HPG Chief Police Brigadier General Eliseo Cruz disclosed that they have not caught any cops using “hot” cars. The operation will continue and lockdowns will also be implemented in other police camps in the country.
Based on the PNP-HPG’s database, over 200,000 cars have been reported stolen. In relation with this, the PBGen. Cruz advised individuals who purchase secondhand cars to check the records with their organization to ensure that the papers are legal.
