Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Menardo Guevarra has stated that the Senate and the House of Representatives are free to file their own complaints against former and current PhilHealth officials involved in the anomalies after the Senate expressed its intent to push for its own complaints.
According to Sec. Guevarra, there is nothing preventing the Senate or the Lower House to file their own complaints since “both the Executive and Legislative branches, representing the interest of the people, are duty-bound to rid any government agency or entity of corruption and wrongdoing.”
The Justice Chief has also assured that “on the part of the DOJ, its work of leading and coordinating the efforts of the member agencies of Task Force Philhealth has just begun. As we continue to probe more deeply into the fraud centers in the state health insurer and build up cases, more names may be included and more complaints will be filed in the coming days.”
On Friday, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has filed with the Office of the Ombudsman the 1st batch of charges on the irregularities in PhilHealth.
DOJ Sec. Guevarra has confirmed that former Philhealth President and CEO Ricardo Morales, Executive Vice President and COO Arnel de Jesus, Senior Vice Presidents Renato Limsiaco Jr. and Israel Francis Pargas are included in the list of the officials charged with Malversation and violation of the Anti-Graft Law. – PTV News
