PNP assignment localization begins

The localization of assignment program of the Philippine National Police (PNP) has started on Wednesday. Under the program police personnel can be assigned to their respective provinces or areas of residence

The PNP has conducted a send-off ceremony on Wednesday morning for the reassigned policemen. Around 2,200 cops were initially included in the program.

The localization of assignment is among the priority programs underscored by PGen. Camilo Cascolan when he was inaugurated as the new chief of PNP. He expressed optimism that this could have a positive impact on the performance of their personnel.

“We will not do this if we have not studied this or research on it. We will not do this if we have not experienced it… ‘Yung ibang pamilyado mas gusto nila sa lugar nila, mas gusto nila sa lugar ng misis nila (Those with families want to be assigned to their places or that of their spouses) because they will be able to take care of their families, do their job much better,” Cascolan emphasized. He also urged the public to report possible abuses on the program.

“We will re-assign them to other areas. If you assign yourself in other areas other than your area of residence, there is a tendency for you to abuse because ‘wala akong kilala rito, mangongotong ako rito. Dito ako yayaman (I do not know anyone here, I can ask for bribes. I will enrich myself here)’,” Cascolan explained.

Meanwhile, the PNP has signed a memorandum of agreement on the launching of national police clearance desk in a mall in Pasay City to expedite processing of police clearances. – Report from Patrick de Jesus
