DOH to deeper on COVID-19 reinfection

The Department of Health (DOH) is gathering more evidences on the reinfection of the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) after a study published in the International Medical Journal, The Lancet, cited a case of a 25-year-old American male who initially showed symptoms in April and has again shown symptoms from the end of May until June.

Based on the findings, the second infection was worse than the first time he tested positive for COVID-19.

According to Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, the DOH is documenting these kinds of cases. They are also requesting data from different parts of the country to thoroughly study reinfection.

However, DOH USec. Vergeire has stated that the articles are all “experiential.”

“It still has to be completed para makaroon tayo ng sapat na ebidenysa. Basta alam natin na mayroon talagang mga tao na positibo na before and nagpopositive sila ulit (It still has to be completed for us to have enough evidence. What we know is there are individuals who were positive before and became positive again).”

The DOH reminds that there is no immunity passport for COVID-19. The department reiterates to take precaution and always comply with the minimum health standards. Report from Mark Fetalco
