Minors not allowed in malls – Metro Manila Council

Metro Manila Mayors have unanimously voted to prohibit minors from entering shopping malls and establishments amid the implementation of general community quarantine in the region.

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) General Manager Jojo Garcia explained that the decision was based on the expert opinion of the Philippine Pediatric Society (PPS) and Pediatric Infectious Disease Society (PIDS).

The PIDS clarified that minors can become carriers of virus despite having strong immunity. Due to the latest decision, the age range of persons allowed to leave their homes stays at 18 to 65 years-old.

Garcia reminded mall owners to ensure the enforcement of the decision since “it’s the responsibility of the establishments and the mall owners.”

“If it’s outside the jurisdiction ng mga (of the) commercial establishment, it will be the responsibility of the local government to check on it including PNP,” he added.

In the case of Cavite, Governor Jonvic Remulla has allowed individuals aged 10 and older to enter malls as long as they are accompanied by their parents.

Meanwhile, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno inspected Divisoria on Thursday and reminded shoppers to strictly observe health protocols amid possibility of COVID-19 case increase. – Report from Patrick de Jesus
