PNP ensures safety of Gregorios, witnesses of Tarlac double murder case

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Police General Debold Sinas personally extended his sympathies to the Gregorios in Tarlac following the killing of their family members, Sonia and Frank, by a policeman.

PGen. Sinas attended the mother and son’s wake after meeting with police personnel at the Paniqui Municipal Station. He also assured the protection of the Gregorio family.

“We encouraged the investigators na lahat ng witness po roon ay i-apply po namin sa (that all witnesses will be applied to the) witness protection program. So we will be coordinating with [Department of Justice] DOJ [to] consider because of the gravity of the offense, double murder.”

The PNP will also recommend the minors who witnessed the incident to undergo counselling including the daughter of the suspect, Police Senior Master Sergeant Jonel Nuezca.

The PNP Chief pointed out that authorities reported how Nuezca deeply regrets his action.

“Kaya lang daw siya sumurender, base sa account ng regional director at ng direktor ng crime lab na kumausap sa kanya, kasi sising-sisi siya. Ang sabi niya nagdilim paningin niya kasi nga ang case mukhang malalim na umpisa ng away. (Based on the account of the regional director and director of the crime lab, he surrendered because he deeply regrets [what he has done]. He said that he lost control because the roots of the disagreement ran deep.)”

Nuezca’s dismissal from the service is currently being processed. The police are just waiting for the order to transfer Nuezca to a jail facility.

PGen. Sinas also clarified that the 2 homicide cases of Nuezca were dismissed since drug operations were involved. The fallen cop has formerly served under the PNP-Drug Enforcement Unit.

“Ibig sabihin, nag-raid sila. Mayroon insidente na lumaban… that’s why it was dropped (It means that there was a raid. There was an incident of resistance… that’s why it was dropped.)” – Report from Bea Bernardo
