DOLE to launch program offering millions of jobs

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is set to launch in 2021 a program creating millions of jobs for displaced workers due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Latest data from the DOLE show that around 3.8 million workers nationwide have lost their jobs or were given reduced working hours due to the impact of the pandemic.

Labor ASec. Dominique Tutay said the department is planning to launch its three-year National Employment Recovery Strategy in January which is expected to be implemented in the middle of 2021.

The program was studied by the labor department and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and is expecting the support of other agencies.

According to the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), the DOLE is among the top 10 agencies with highest allocation under the General Appropriations Act of 2021 with ₱37.1 billion. A good portion of its budget is meant to generate job opportunities for displaced workers affected by the health crisis. – PTV News
