3-strike policy set on RFID lanes

Motorists entering RFID lanes without load for the third time may be fined ₱1,000 under the three-strike policy of the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB).

Under the said policy on RFID use, motorists are given a reminder on first offense and followed by a warning on the second.

According to Transportation Undersecretary Garry De Guzman, there have been instances where motorists enter the lane without load for 50 to 200 times.

“Kasi kung mayroon hong isa na pumasok ng RFID lanes na walang load, imagine-in yung effect and thousands po yung pumapasok ngayon na paulit-ulit na pumapasok na walang load (If one enters RFID lanes without load, imagine the effect, considering that thousands have repeatedly entered without load),” De Guzman added.

“It’s quite bad because napansin namin na nagkakaroon ng bottleneck doon sa mga exit, exit lanes namin kapag ganoon (Its quite bad because we’ve observed a bottleneck in exit lanes whenever that happens),” SMC Tollways President Manny Bonoan narrated.

Imposing penalties on toll operators is also being considered as the TRB is set to establish a minimum performance standard. – Report from Karen Villanda
