US Pres. Biden eases immigration policies

The administration of American President Joe Biden aims to unite thousands of immigrants with their families in the United States (US) under a relaxed immigration policy.

The US President has signed three executive orders including the creation of a task force that will connect the families separated due to the past administration’s immigration policies.

“To strengthen the immigration system, building the executive action I took on day 1 to protect dreamers, and the Muslim ban, and to better manage our borders…I’m not making new laws, I’m eliminating bad policy.”

The Biden administration also intends to strengthen trust in the US legal immigration system as well as push for a law that will provide citizenship to almost 11 million undocumented immigrants.

According to political analyst Ramon Casiple, the change is a good development especially for non-immigrant Filipinos in the US and for those who wish to live in the said country. The relaxed immigration policy will strengthen the coordination of the Philippines and the US in in spite of the tension in the West Philippine Sea. – Report from Naomi Tiburcio
