Batangas port trips to MIMAROPA suspended due to ‘Ramil’

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – All trips from Batangas Port going to the MIMAROPA region comprised of Mindoro Oriental and Occidental, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan have been suspended as of 9 a.m. on Wednesday due to Tropical Depression “Ramil.”

Georgina Garcia, public information officer of the Calabarzon Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC), told PNA on Wednesday that the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Southern Tagalog and Philippine Ports Authority (PPA in Batangas have issued the public advisory for passengers now stranded in the port and other travelers.

Coast guard and port authorities said the trips will resume until further notice from the PCG.

The suspension was based on the severe weather bulletin #1 of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued 5 a.m. on Wednesday as the low pressure area south southwest of Masbate City has developed into a tropical depression with the local name “Ramil.”

PAGASA said the estimated rainfall is from moderate to occasionally heavy rains within the 200-km diameter of the Tropical Depression which was expected to traverse the Calamian Group of Islands on Wednesday.

The government weather bureau also advised residents that Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal #1 was hoisted over Metro Manila, Bicol Region, CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), the rest of MIMAROPA and advised the public to be alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides.

It also advised that sea travel is risky over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboard of Central and Southern Luzon.

Garcia also said that around 20 families who were evacuated to safer grounds on Tuesday evening in Lopez, Quezon have returned to their homes Wednesday after floodwaters subsided in some villages due to heavy rains overnight. (PNA)
