DICT wraps up cybersecurity training for CIIs

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Cybersecurity Bureau has successfully concluded its Cybersecurity Policy and Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training for Critical Information Infrastructures (CIIs) last March 23, 2021.

The training was aimed at educating and capacitating various sectors on topics such as cybersecurity policies, setting up of CERT, and incident response life cycle.

“Strengthening the country’s cybersecurity is vital to our digital transformation efforts. As we increase our use of information and communications technology, cyber threats and risks also increase,” DICT Secretary Gregorio B. Honasan explained.

“Now more than ever, we need to protect our critical information infrastructures from threats and risks as we endeavor to recover from the ongoing health crisis and as we transition to the new normal,” he added.

Target sectors of the series of training include energy, water, banking and finance, transportation and logistics, health, government, emergency services, media, business process outsourcing (BPO), and telecommunications.

The training was facilitated by the Critical Infostructure Evaluation and Cybersecurity Standards Monitoring (CIECSM) Division and the National Computer Emergency Response Team (NCERT) Division of DICT’s Cybersecurity Bureau.

Meanwhile, as part of its cybersecurity efforts, the DICT continuously employs the Cybersecurity Management System Platform (CMSP) to act on threats before, during, and after cyber-attacks. The said platform is the country’s first-ever cyber resiliency initiative and serves as the primary instrument in making the Philippine Government more secure and resilient in cyberspace and in safeguarding Filipinos in the cyber realm.

CERT-PH, the DICT’s NCERT, utilizes the CMSP and other tools to offer and deliver frontline services and activities. These include the handling of early threat detection, Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing (VAPT), the conduct of cyber drills, and cyber incident response with actionable intelligence for government agencies and other CIIs connected to the CMSP.
