DOLE aims to hire displaced workers as contact tracers

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) aims to hire displaced workers as additional contact tracers in the National Capital Region (NCR) Plus.

In today’s Laging Handa Public Briefing, DOLE- Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns (BWSC) Director Atty. Maria Karina Perida-Trayvilla disclosed that the emergency employment program of the agency will be used to hire additional contact tracers in order to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.

“Ang gusto po sana nating ma-hire dito ay ang mga nasa impormal na sektor at ang mga na-displace po sa trabaho. Kung maaari po ay kahit ang qualification na high school graduate ay tanggapin bilang isang contact tracer. [We wish to hire those who are displaced and those in the informal sector. We suggest that if possible, high school graduates can also be accepted as a contact tracer].”

Displaced workers and those in the informal sector are the labor department’s priority. The hired workers will receive a salary depending on the minimum wage of the region where they will be working in. It is also better if the contact tracers are residents of the local government they are working for.

Dir. Trayvilla pointed out that the newly hired contact tracers will undergo online training and learn the modules within 1 to 2 days. She also assured that their training days will be paid.
