Typhoon Bising floods 22 barangays in Eastern Samar

Twenty-two barangays in Eastern Samar were flooded in the onslaught of Typhoon Bising, the latest data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) showed.

The NDRRMC also reported that 18,467 families or 68,490 persons were preemptively evacuated. No casualties and injuries have been recorded so far.

At least two road sections and one bridge remain unpassable in Biliran and Eastern Samar due to flooding and possible landslides. Power interruptions were reported in several provinces, including Cebu, Leyte, Southern Leyte, and Eastern Samar.

The NDRRM Operations Center is currently on red alert status while the track and impact of the typhoon are being monitored.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development is ready to use its P1.6 billion standby fund and stocks of family food packs for affected residents.

Based on a report of Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque on Monday noon, none of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) airports within Regions 5, 8, and 12 sustained any damage. No stranded passengers were reported as of Monday noon.

In terms of ports, no damage or untoward incidents were reported in the typhoon-affected areas, except in Catbalogan where seawater level reached deck level on April 18. Stranded passengers were accommodated and given food. – Report from Bea Bernardo/AG-jlo#
