52-unit quarantine facility opens in San Juan

The government opened today in San Juan City a 52-room quarantine facility constructed of container vans.

The new facility, on which construction started last February, will augment the 250-bed capacity of the city for COVID-19 patients that is currently 80% occupied.

Constructed by the Department of Public Works and Highways, each room of the facility has its own bed, bathroom, and aircon.

“’Yan naman ang gusto natin [para] sa ating mga pasyente — na habang sila ay nag-quarantine, maayos at marangal ‘yung kanilang tinutuluyan,” Mayor Francis Zamora said.

The government said this will ensure that COVID-19 patients, including asymptomatic ones, will be isolated from their families to prevent transmission.

The local government of San Juan also guaranteed that families of quarantined patients will be given P3,000 in financial aid.

The city currently has 702 active cases. This has gone down from the average 1,200 cases since the beginning of the surge last March.

As of April 30, around 10,000 residents have been vaccinated against COVID-19. The city is expecting 4,800 doses of CoronaVac. – Report from Patrick de Jesus/AG-jlo
