Nievarez wants more serious training for Olympic stint

Olympic-bound rower Cris Nievarez has some requests for more serious training in preparation for the Tokyo Games.

According to the 2019 Southeast Asian Games gold medalist, the services of foreign coach Shukhrat Ganiev will be the biggest help for his training.

The 60-year-old rowing mentor was supposedly bound for the Philippines last April but travel restrictions are keeping him off-shore.

But Nievarez is still optimistic as the Uzbek coach’s arrival draws near.

Aside from this, the 21-year-old Atimonan, Quezon rower also aims to train abroad,  particularly in China.

Nievarez is the third Olympian in the history of Philippine rowing. He is also the one who broke more than 20 years of any national rowers making it to the Olympics. – Report by Khay Asuncion/JBB-rir
