Cebu City logs 95% recovery rate

Cebu City recorded its highest recovery rate at 95% on Sunday (May 16).

Based on data from the city’s emergency operations center (EOC), as of May 16, there are 23,781 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the city with only 329 active cases, 22,594 recoveries, and 858 deaths. Cebu City’s positivity rate has also dropped to 1.61%.

Cebu City Mayor Edgar Labella expressed his gratitude towards his constituents for being “compliant.”

In relation to this, the Noah Complex in South Road Properties will shut down after being used as an isolation facility for more than a year. According to the EOC, only 17 rooms are currently occupied out of 450 rooms.

Many rooms in quarantine facilities have also been relaxed from use due to the reduced number of COVID-19 patients.

“Naniniwala ako na hindi na kailangan pang magdagdag ng mga isolation facilities, ang ating mga barangay isolation facilities [ay] tatlo na lang. Wala na kasi tayong dinadalang mga pasyente,” Mayor Labella said.

The local government is hoping that the COVID-19 situation in Cebu City will continue to improve in the coming months.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte placed the city under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) until May 31.
