Sputnik V jabs to arrive next week; Russian firms to explore oil and gas in PH

A larger shipment of Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccines manufactured by the Gamaleya Research Institute in Russia is expected to arrive in the Philippines sometime next week or early next month.

The third batch of the Sputnik V vaccine delivery will consist of about a hundred thousand doses of both component I and component II doses.

Vaccine manufacturing

Meanwhile, during the online conference for the 45th anniversary of Russia-Philippines diplomatic relations on May 25, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said the Philippines is open to cooperating with Russia in localizing vaccine manufacturing.

“As we continue to battle the COVID-19 pandemic, we look to Russia as a reliable partner in vaccine procurement and manufacturing,” said DFA Undersecretary for Bilateral and ASEAN Affairs Elizabeth Buensuceso.

With the administration’s multilateral approach to foreign policy, more cooperation between the two countries is taking strides.

The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of the Philippines Marat Pavlov said Russian companies are exploring new business opportunities in the Philippines in the oil and coal industries.

He added that they may also explore opportunities in nuclear medicine.

“As the Philippines works to enhance its energy security, Russian investments and

technology can greatly contribute to diversifying our energy resources,” he said. – Report from Naomi Tiburcio / CF-jlo
